I am from South Wales where I qualified as a Chartered Accountant (FCA). After a short period working in Africa, I studied in business school, specialising in Finance. I then went into Banking in London where I specialised in Treasury and Risk Management.
In 1990, I co-founded the management consultancy, JC Rathbone Associates (“JCRA”) providing financial risk management services to the corporate sector. In recent years, I spent much of my time acting as an expert witness, being instructed by SME’s in their quest for redress from their bankers arising from the alleged mis-selling of financial instruments. It was in this capacity that I came to appreciate mediation as an alternative to court proceedings for settling disputes, so much so that I resolved to become actively involved in it.
Mediation or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a respected and effective means of settling disputes and, following retirement in 2017, I trained as a mediator with the London School of Mediation. I am now an Accredited Mediator and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (“CIArb”). I am also a member of the Civil Mediation Council (“CMC”) being a CMC Registered Mediator.
I have also joined the community mediation team at Mediation Hertfordshire which provides a voluntary service to the community in Hertfordshire.
My other voluntary work includes being treasurer and a trustee of HACRO (Hertfordshire Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders).
